Wife's parents have a new computer and before I could install antivirus software they downloaded free software and got the Trovi malware. I was able to uninstall the conduit software and uninstalled the conduit addon in IE. They have Windows 8 and their browser is still really laggy. I go to MSN.com and it just keeps locking up and not responding. Any other suggestions? I have also ran malwarebytes on the computer twice and got everything it found off of it. Thanks for your help.

Well the last thing I would do is double check the video card drivers (maybe manufacturer's site has some updated versions) and download the latest version of Flash (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ - make sure you opt out of "optional offer"). You could also try running CCleaner. If this doesn't help you could send the hijackthis log, maybe it will reveal some other issues.

Hi Dave, make sure there are no other potentially unwanted programs in "uninstall programs" window and in the IE add-ons window. Most commonly free software installers bundle Trovi toolbar with other adware, this might cause the slow browser performance you described. You could also try reinstalling Flash (MSN is crowded with flash based advertisements), maybe it's causing some problems. You could also try resetting your Internet browser/s settings. Additionally you could also try running CCleaner.

@Tomas, I have reset their internet explorer settings, ran Malwarebytes twice and it removed everything that had to do with the trovi, changed the setting to do software rendering instead of gpu rendering for IE (in security settings on advanced), installed updates since it is a new computer. I think it also maybe could be that drivers need to be updated, which I did update some drivers already. I have not tried reinstalling Flash but that is a part of the browser now, right? Have to uninstall it through the add-ons or something? I uninstalled Microsoft Silverlight but that didn't do anything. Was thinking it has to do something with an update or something. I know before it was because of the Trovi virus, which I believe I have removed everything that has to do anything with that since running Malwarebytes, and resetting all the IE settings, and making sure it was gone from the Control Panel. It is becoming frustrating because I cannot find the issue and hate it cause they were happy to get a new computer and now it is running like an old POS.

I guess I can run Hijackthis on their computer and place the logfile here to see if anyone can assist. Seems that a lot of sites work fine but the worst one is MSN. Anyways, their IE shouldn't be locking up and freezing for them when it is a new computer so it has to be something that can be updated or fixed so they can enjoy their new computer.
