I have downloaded and paid for Combo Cleaner Premium, ran the search, found 5 infected files, deleted them, restarted my laptop, and opened up chrome to find that it opens up to g-search.pro and any new tab i make does the same. I spent money for this software to fix the problem. It didn't do it. I want a refund.
Accepted Answer0Hi Anna, you could try downloading Chrome Canary (https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/canary.html). Let me know if this version of Chrome gets hijacked by g-search.pro
Accepted AnswerAnnaOffline0Hi Tomas,
Sorry for the late reply, life happened. I followed your steps. It didn't work. I haven't opened Google Chrome since I last wrote to you. So when I opened Chrome (after i did your steps), the homepage, the new tab page, and the Chrome settings I had previously fixed (Show home button under Appearance & Search Engine) were gone, like g-search.pro took over again. I tried fixing the settings again & then re-doing your steps, but same results. I tried running another Combo Cleaner full scan, but it found nothing. Do you have any more advice? It would be much appreciated.
Accepted Answer0Hi Anna, as this browser hijacker is affecting only your Google Chrome browser - this could mean that a rogue browser profile was created. To fix this:
1. Quit Google Chrome completely.
2. In the Mac menu bar at the top of the screen, click Go.
3. Select Go to Folder.
4. Enter the following directories in the text field, then press Go.
5. Locate the folder called "Default" in the directory window that opens and rename it as "Backup default."
6. Try opening Google Chrome again. A new "Default" folder is automatically created as you start using the browser.
Let me know if after following these steps you still get g-search.pro as your new tab. Thank you.
Accepted AnswerAnnaOffline0Hi Tomas, first off thanks for replying. I'm not sure why you told me to check my safari, since it was my Google Chrome that was hijacked... but I followed the instructions from the link you provided anyways. I checked the extensions of both safari & chrome. I deleted all the extensions just in case. It didn't do anything. I also followed your instructions in your PS. section. Didn't do anything. Btw, my safari is not compromised, just chrome. I keep runnings scans via Combo Cleaner & it finds nothing wrong. But every-time I make a new tab on Google Chrome, it opens up to g-search.pro. And I have tried multiple times to reset Google Chrome in the settings, but all that does is destroy any fixes I have made. It adds back g-search.pro in default search engine and makes the homepage back to g-search.pro. I have also tried uninstalling & reinstalling Google Chrome, and that does nothing too.
Not sure what to do anymore, but Combo Cleaner is obviously not finding whatever is still infecting my computer.
Accepted Answer0Hi Anna, you could be dealing with an updated variant of g-search.pro browser hijacker. Please check your Safari extensions list, look for GSearchPro browser extensions and remove it if present. Use these instructions to make it easier (clicking this link will automatically open the part of the article that you need to follow - https://www.pcrisk.com/removal-guides/11001-g-search-pro-redirect-mac#a3).
PS. If you won't find the GSearchPro extension in Safari, this means that Combo Cleaner have already removed the adware from your computer. The last step is to change your homepage. To do this launch your Safari browser, click "Safari" (top right corner of your screen), select "Preferences". In the "Preferences" window, select the "General" tab. To set your homepage, type the preferred website URL (for example: www.google.com) in the Homepage field.
Let me know how it goes.
