Hi there,

My browser has been taken over by chromesearch. This is what I've tried so far (in order):

-Checked installed programs and couldn't find anything related
-Reset my extensions
-Tried to change my Search Engine > Manage Search Engines > default search engine to google.com. I couldn't do this, because clicking on the three dots beside the chromesearch.today option is unresponsive
-Reset Chrome
-Tried to change search engine, same issue.
-Uninstalled Chrome
-Deleted all references of google chrome from my computer
-Reinstalled Chrome, choosing not to log into my google account
Settings are still the same as before, with chromesearch.today set as my default.

I have followed all the steps in this guide and had no luck: https://www.pcrisk.com/removal-guides/11813-chromesearch-today-redirect

How can I uninstall chromesearch.today as the default search engine for Chrome, if I can't access the triple dots to change it :(. I was hoping I'd be able to set a different one as default to unlock the ability to delete chromesearch.today but it doesn't seem I can.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Fee, please try following these steps and then try changing your default search engine:

1) Open the Command Prompt by clicking the start menu button and typing "command prompt". Right click the "Command Prompt" result and select "Run as Administrator":

2) Execute the following commands:

rd /S /Q "%WinDir%\System32\GroupPolicyUsers"
rd /S /Q "%WinDir%\System32\GroupPolicy"
gpupdate /force

Let me know how it goes. Thank you.

My pc is infected by 'chromesearch.today' browser hijacker.
Ive tried everything listed on your forum.
I used Malwarebytes, hitman pro, and Bitdefender total security to remove it but nothing happened.
And in chrome setting where we change search engine, it says "this setting os enforced by your administrator".
    Please help me.

    Hi Tomas,

Thanks so much for your help, that fixed it!

After entering the execute commands, I was able to use the little three dot icon to remove Chromesearch.today from my search engine choices, and then set Chrome as my default.

    Thanks again! :)
